Anxiety and phobias

Fear is a normal human emotion, which helps us when we face danger. Anxiety, however, differs from fear, as it is not justified by the presence of a dangerous situation.

People affected by anxiety feel permanent worry and sometimes an unjustified intense fear, which affects their daily lives.

Over time, anxiety alters the quality of life, professional activity or ability to learn, relationships with family, colleagues and friends.

The combination of medication and psychotherapy is often the option that gives the best results both in the short term and in the longer term. Various effective psychotherapeutic techniques aim to change the patterns of thinking that trigger anxiety. The advantage of the psychotherapeutic approach is that it aims both to overcome the anxiety itself and to create positive thinking.

In our clinic, the choice of treatment is decided in collaboration with the patient and takes into account the needs and particularities of his life context.

  • GENERALIZED ANXIETY

Refers to excessive and uncontrollable worries about everyday life events. The diagnosis is made when the stress caused by constant worries significantly affects daily activities, social and professional life and the quality of life itself is significantly damaged. Over time, you become constantly agitated and impatient, you always feel tired, you have sleep disorders and you have difficulty concentrating.

  • PANIC ATTACKS

Occur when our body responds paroxysmically to certain stimuli, through the sudden appearance of the feeling of intense fear. A panic attack can last between 5 and 20 minutes, during which time there is difficulty breathing, severe heartbeat, loss of control, chest pain, sweating, nausea, chills, without all this putting life in danger. With us, you can overcome these conditions and regain control.

  • SOCIAL ANXIETY

Is often found in people who are hypersensitive to criticism and a pronounced lack of self-confidence. It is a form of anxiety that causes high levels of stress and a feeling of excessive, irrational fear. They occur in situations of social exposure such as public speaking, attending meetings, or interacting with certain people. The tendency to social avoidance inevitably appears, which affects career and relationships with others.

  • PHOBIC DISORDER

Phobia is an intense, irrational fear of confronting certain things or situations. Those who have a phobia, even knowing there is no real danger to their life or health, still fail to control the paroxysmal feeling of fear. In treatment, the solution is to "desensitize" and create new better response patterns to situations that trigger the emotions associated with the phobia. Untreated, phobias can trigger generalized anxiety.

  • AGORAPHOBIA

Is the fear of large spaces, the fear of crowds and public places, fear of traveling alone by bus or plane. In extreme cases, people with agoraphobia may become unable to leave their homes if they are not accompanied by trusted people, unable to go shopping or to work. There is a natural tendency to avoid situations that could trigger a panic attack. Untreated agoraphobia can last for years and worsen over time.

  • OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER

Is characterized by unwanted obsessive thoughts, followed by compulsive actions. Thoughts and behaviors differ from person to person, but one example is obsessive thinking about microbes, followed by compulsive hand washing. Those who suffer from OCD may feel trapped in an endless cycle. This is an emotionally exhausting mental disorder that negatively impacts the daily lives of those who face it.
